Julie Ainsworth-Taylor brings a "from the bench" perspective to the firm, joining after serving as Staff Attorney for all regions of the State of Washington’s Growth Management Hearings Board for almost four years. During her tenure as Staff Attorney, Julie assisted the Board in all phases of its practice, including the drafting of substantive decisions, as well as authoring the Board’s Practice Handbook, serving as Rules Coordinator for WAC updates, and representing the Board at continuing education seminars for both attorneys and planners. Previous to this, Julie worked under contract as the Law Clerk for the Central Puget Sound Growth Management Hearings Board. In addition to her service to the Growth Board, Julie has served as a Land Use Hearing Examiner for counties and cities throughout Western Washington. As a hearing examiner, Julie issued decisions pertaining to land use actions such as code compliance, variances, reasonable use exceptions, planned unit developments, preliminary and final plat approval, shoreline development permits, SEPA appeals, special use permits, conditional use permits, home occupation permits, and rezones. Also, prior to becoming an attorney, Julie worked for 15 years in the seafood business, both domestically and internationally, in the areas of production, inventory control, customer service, and logistics.
Julie graduated cum Laude from Seattle University School of Law with an emphasis in environmental and land use law. She earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies (Magna cum Laude), also from Seattle University, and an A.A with an emphasis in Political Science and Environmental Studies (Summa cum Laude) from Bellevue College. Julie is currently seeking a Masters in Community and Economic Development from Penn State World Campus.
Julie is licensed to practice law in Washington and is a member of the Environmental and Land Use Law section. She is also a member of the Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association
